Tourism is a sport! How many steps are you going to visit? "Makino Botanical Garden"
In Kochi Prefecture, there are many spots in various places where you can walk a lot just by sightseeing without having to be conscious of "walking". Therefore, this project is to count on the pedometer of how many steps you actually get when walking in a large tourist spot. This time, the second installment, is the Kochi Prefectural Makino Botanical Garden, which is attracting attention in the serial TV novel "Ranman". Please look forward to the results of how many steps you will take if you stroll through the large park!

Makino Botanical Garden full of highlights

This project actually counts how many steps you will take to walk around the sightseeing spots that Kochi is proud of. Following the first Noichi Zoological Park, this time we will walk the Kochi Prefectural Makino Botanical Garden in Godaiyama, Kochi City. Set a pedometer and start a walk from the main gate of the botanical garden, which is crowded with many visitors.
An overview of Makino Botanical Gardens is also introduced on this special page. Please check it out.

The park is vast, so the number of steps varies greatly depending on the spot you visit. This time, we will introduce a course that walks through the whole botanical garden in about an hour and a half. We enter the park from the main gate, visit the north and south gardens, and leave the park from the newly established middle Gate in 2023.

Go through the area where wild plants growing in Kochi are planted, and go to the first building with an entrance window. This is the main building of the Makino Tomitaro Memorial Hall that blends into nature. It is an excellent building full of warmth of wood that has won numerous architectural awards.

From the main building of the Makino Tomitaro Memorial Hall, head to the Konkon Yamahiro field with a good view.

At the Konkon Yamahiroba, beautiful flowers according to the season welcome visitors (depending on the year, events such as flower shows are also held *The photo shows in the spring of 2023).

I am fascinated by the colorful flowers that are planted every season. It's amazing on Instagram, so don't forget to take a commemorative photo! The trick to taking a picture that shines on a smartphone is that the person being taken should squat down and match the height of the flower with the face. And the photographer should take pictures from a distance. At that time, the point is to enlarge and allow flowers to be reflected in the front and back of the person. Depending on the model, it is also recommended to use a function that blurs the background such as portrait mode.

View from observation deck with a height of 4m. The clear skies of Kochi and the rich greenery calm your mind. After this, we will head to the greenhouse and the south garden at the end of the gaze.

There are a number of arbors and benches, so take a break on the way. In addition, Makino Botanical Garden has limited areas where you can eat and drink. Konkon Yamahiroba is one of the areas where you can eat and drink. It is a good idea to have lunch and snacks while looking at the flower garden and take a break.

After loving flowers at Konkon Yamahiroba, go down the 170m corridor and go to the exhibition hall. Flowers loved by the doctor are also planted on both sides of the corridor.
Each plant in the park has a plate attached to it. If you are moving forward while thinking about the story of each flower, you will forget the time. You will notice that you are walking a lot in time!

After passing through the corridor, you will arrive at the Makino Tomitaro Memorial Hall Exhibition Hall, where the life of Dr. Tomitaro Makino is displayed. After walking through the courtyard of the exhibition hall, follow the connecting road leading to Minamien.

There is Canna & Rose Garden on the way along the connecting road, and dozens of roses will be in full bloom from May to June. This is the middle point of this course. If the number of steps is counted considerably ... Expect the result and proceed steadily in the large park.

I arrived at Minamien, which was built using the undulating terrain. The statue of Tomitaro Makino, made of bronze, welcomes you.

The 50th anniversary garden is a migratory aquascape garden where Japanese iris and lotus are planted. Six large and small ponds are arranged, and seasonal flowers such as cherry blossoms and hydrangea color the garden. On the day I visited, the flowers were not blooming, but the fresh green reflected on the surface of the water was as beautiful as a painting. One of the attractions of Makino Botanical Garden is that you can show a different expression every time you visit every season.

On the hill of the south garden, there is a greenhouse boasting of Makino Botanical Garden.

Tropical plants from home and abroad are planted in the greenhouse, and when you step in, you feel as if you were lost in a foreign country. You can enjoy a tropical exploration feeling, such as a tower inspired by a primitive forest, powerful and mysterious plants such as Ako, and a green jungle zone.

Water garden where you can see plants that like wetlands. There is also an aquatic plant with one of the world's largest leaves, and in summer there is an event where children under 15 kg can ride on the leaves of Onibus.

When you leave the greenhouse, let's stretch your legs to the Children's Square. It is a flat open space surrounded by trees, and an arbor is also installed. This is also possible to eat and drink like Konkon Yamahiroba. There are relatively few people, so you can rest slowly.

After resting at Shonen Square, we will return to the greenhouse and head to middle Gate. middle Gate is located in the Plant Research Exchange Center (nicknamed Lab Terrace), which opened in May 2023.
We have arrived at the goal point, so let's come to announce the results!

The result was about 5,000 steps in about an hour and a half!
The fresh green was very comfortable and I didn't feel tired, and there were many places to rest, such as the Konkon Yamahiroba and the Shonen Square, so I did not feel like walking so much. I feel healed by plants and pretty flowers, and my mind and body have become healthy.
This time I did not go around the interior of the main building of the Makino Tomitaro Memorial Hall or the medicinal herb Ward, so if you include that, the number of steps will increase. If you continue walking with the goal of 5,000 steps a day, you will not get a heavy waist, but at Makino Botanical Garden, you can only enjoy beautiful plants, and depending on the course, you can walk thousands of steps.
Makino Botanical Garden where you can meet Kochi's plants and rare plants from all over the world while looking at the far Shikoku Mountains. Please come to the park for a healthy walking spot where you can experience the splendor of nature and walk a lot.

Finally, I would like to introduce the newly opened restaurant "C.L.GARDEN" at Makino Botanical Garden. It is located on the third floor of the Center for Plant Research and Exchange. You can enjoy a Western menu using seasonal ingredients while looking at the south garden.

Recommended lunch menu, chef's special hamburger cocot lunch. The original onion sauce offers exquisite hamburger steak with hot cocot.

Aquapazza, a fish lunch purchased at the foot of the market. The daily fish purchased at the market at the foot is finished with fruit tomatoes and vegetables from Kochi Prefecture. Please ask the staff for the fish on the day.

Berry berry squash that moisturizes your throat during cafe time. Non-alcoholic cocktail made with mixed berries such as blueberries and strawberries.

Tea soda. This is a non-alcoholic squash cocktail with refreshing tea.
Enjoy crushing plenty of lemon inside as you like.
