In the eastern part of Kochi Prefecture, there is the Kochi Aki Bicycle Pathway, a bicycle and pedestrian road that connects about 15 km from Konan City to Aki City. A cycling road created by maintaining a part of the ruins of the Tosa Electric Railway and Aki Lines, which operated from 1924 to 1974, is a course that can be easily run by beginners using a rental bicycle because there is relatively little up and down . Along the way, there are valuable railway remain, places that are talked about on commercials, SNS, and scenic spots along the sea. We will introduce the spots you want to enjoy while cycling from west to east.

What is Kochi Aki Bicycle Path?

Utilizing the ruins of the Tosa Electric Railway and Aki Lines, it was revived as a bicycle and pedestrian road in 1985. The official name is "General Prefectural Road Kochi Aki Bicycle Traffic Line (Prefectural Road No. 501)". It refers to a 15km road from the vicinity of Kagami Station on the Tosa Kuroshio Railway Gomen Nahari Line to the vicinity of Aki Fishing Port, and most of it is along the south side of the current Gomen Nahashiri Line. It is popular not only as cycling but also as a pilgrimage road.

First, rent a bicycle

There are two facilities where bicycles can be rented in the section of the bicycle path. "roadside rest area Yasuya Si Plaza" is a convenient location just after getting off at Yasu Station on the Tosa Kuroshio Railway Gomen Nahari Line. Alternatively, a 5-minute walk from the Kochi Eastern Kotsu Bus Stop "Teiyama", you can rent it at the "Cycling Terminal" in Konan City, which has a wide variety of bicycles and many types.

Both parking lots are fully equipped, so access by car is also possible.

Southern mood full of "Ya Si Park"

"Ya Si Park" adjacent to roadside rest area Yasu, one of the rental bicycle facilities. This complex has one of the largest beaches in the prefecture. It is a tropical facility with promenade along the coast stretching 530m, a children's square with playground equipment, a beach volleyball court that can be used by reservation, and a picnic site with barbecue.

In addition to the blue sky and sea scenery, the location at dusk is the best, so it is recommended to take a walk before and after cycling or take a break while enjoying lunch and sweets at restaurants and cafes in the park along the way.

The power of the sky rises high! 'Teyuzu Port Mobility Bridge'

A 32-meter-long movable bridge built at the entrance of Tezuka Port, about 800 meters east of Ya Shi Park. It is a rare "one-sided bounce bridge" in Japan, which is opened and closed six times a day for boat passage, and one road bounces slowly as a bridge. The jumping angle is up to 70 degrees, and the appearance of rising high in the sky seems to be piercing the road.

Completed in 2002, it attracted attention because it was introduced as a location for children's programs and commercials, and now it is a tourist spot that many people visit from outside the prefecture. You can see it with Osako power from the observation space set up at the base of the bridge, or you can see it split into the cityscape from a distance. Enjoy it from each place.

The bridge is closed, and cars and people can pass only 7 hours a day. Let's run for the timing.

Tunnel that retains its appearance at that time

The "Teiyama Daiichi Tunnel" appears about 1 km east of the Teyuzu Modo Bridge, just as you climb the uphill slope of Teyuzu. Shortly before that, there is the "Teiyama Daini Tunnel", which almost remains the appearance of the Tosa Electric Railway Aki Line era. It is a reputation among railway fans because you can enjoy cycling while thinking about the vehicles that used to run here.

"Kotogahama" is healed by the sound of comfortable waves

"Kotogahama" spreads out in Geisei Village, Aki-gun, about 4 km east of Teiyama Daini Tunnel.
Beyond the sandy beach, which is so beautiful that it has been selected as one of Japan's Top 100 White Sands and Blue Pines, is a straight horizon.

It is a healing spot where the sound of waves and the wind of the sea are comfortable.

The cycling section around Kotogahama is a well-maintained road surface that allows you to run through pine trees.
It is a course where you can feel especially refreshed.

There are various photo spots, such as the Infinity Wood Deck, which is set up to connect with the sea, and the bench where you can take pictures with the image character of the flower "Blue Star" representing Geisei Village.

In the parking lot at Kotogahama, Sakamoto Ryoma's wife "Oryu" and her sister "Kimie" are waving toward the statue of Ryoma in Katsura-hama Beach. After Ryoma's death, it is said that it was built because the dragon relied on his sister and stayed in Geisei Village.

A sudden appearance of exotic scenery "Akano Bicycle Path Rest Area"

After riding a bicycle for about 3 km east along the coast from Kotogahama, you will arrive at the Akano Bicycle Path Rest Area. An impressive building reminiscent of the Mediterranean Sea on the site surrounded by olive trees and lawns, and a photo spot overlooking Kotogahama is a hot topic on SNS. Cherry blossoms are in full bloom in the spring.

There are toilets, benches and parking lots, making it ideal for resting your tired body during cycling.

To Aki City at the end point, "Carillon Square" as a landmark

The Aki Bicycle Path does not have a clear goal mark, but the `` Carillon Plaza '' built at the site of Aki Station, the end point of the Tosa Electric Railway Aki Line, which is less than 6 km east of the Akano Bicycle Path Rest Area, is the goal point It has been.

Carillon (bell) clock contains about 50 nursery rhymes composed by Ryutaro Hirota, who is related to Aki City. It is played several times a day according to the season and time. Along with the bell, a Karakuri doll appears from a yellow sphere with the motif of yuzu, a specialty product.

Local specialty products go to Aki-basan Market

1.7km from Carillon Square, National Route 55 toward Aki Station on the Gomen Nahashiri Line.
We will extend our foot to "Aki Station Chibasan Market" attached to the station premises. There are fresh local vegetables and fresh fish, freshly baked bread and lunch boxes, processed products and locally brewed sake that cannot be purchased elsewhere, and there is also a rest space.

In addition to producers' markets and specialty products, there are many products related to Aki, from rare-flavored ice born in Aki, and Uchihara Noyaki, a handicraft.

In addition, at Aki Station Chiba-san Market, rental bicycles are available free of charge (reception only on the day, non-disposable), and 11 adult bicycles and 3 children's bicycles are fully equipped. Please use this for sightseeing in Aki City as well.

Aki City has many historical attractions such as the stray clock, the Samurai residence, the ruins of Aki Castle and the birthplace of Yataro Iwasaki. It is also recommended to enjoy sightseeing in the city while cycling.

How was it? "Kochi Aki Bicycle Path" is the greatest attraction of the scenery rich in taste and varied, such as the nostalgic railway remain in the magnificent Pacific Ocean, the occasional private houses and the rest area in pilgrim.

Because it is a bicycle / pedestrian road, you can enjoy it carefully without having to worry about traffic.

Starting point near Kagami Station
Starting point near Aki Fishing Port

It is about 2 hours of cycling if you run at about 30 km round trip and average speed of 15 km / h, but please enjoy at your own pace, such as turning back at your favorite place while consulting with your physical strength.♪
